Customizing an FMEA type
If you are a member of the "fmea-admin" group then you can customize an existing FMEA type to make it match your specific needs.
Enable and disable fields and records
Use the "Records and fields" tree grid to enable the records and fields that you want included in this type of FMEA.
For each field, to enable the field and show it in the edit panel, click Enabled, then:
- To display the field in the worksheet view, click Show in worksheet.
- To display the field in the tree view, click Show in tree.
Initially, fields selected to show in the worksheet and/or tree display in a default column order and width that is hard-coded.
Customize the display name and tip text
For each field you can also change the display name and add tip text, if desired:
- Display name is the name that will appear in the interface and report output. If it is empty, then it will use the default field name.
- Tip text, if populated, is a short statement that displays when a user hovers the mouse in the worksheet/tree column headers and on the edit panel inputs.
Special cases
- All FMEA types must include the Function description, Failure description, Effect description and Cause description fields.
- Requirements, Controls and Actions are not required to be part of an FMEA. If you enable them, then their respective record descriptions will also show in the worksheet/tree views.
- Enabling certain fields also enables other fields that must be used at the same time.

While the parent field is enabled, the dependent fields cannot be disabled. Note that if the parent field is later disabled, the dependent fields remain enabled unless/until you choose to disable them.
